In the fall of 1995, Manbir Prihar, one of the founders of the company, became quite ill for an extended period of time. He was eventually diagnosed as having developed Type I Diabetes Mellitus.

Through the need to identify and react to emerging trends in the daily requirements of Diabetes therapy, the company developed a flexible data management system for blood glucose meters.

This was a natural fit because of its first-hand knowledge of computer systems in the medical industry.
